About My Abstract Collage Art:
My work is a creative synthesis of my interaction with the world around me.
I use traditional art mediums, as well as materials found in the world such as printed fabrics, magazine pages, mailers, illustrations from old books I've collected, shredded newspapers and photos found online.
I often bring my physical work into software programs as digital photos or scans and transform them, playing with the original meaning of the work as an element in the new story I'm creating.
Living in a Post-Modern world, I'm constructing an understanding of the ideas, theories and belief systems that have evolved through our history and influence how we live and see ourselves.

My approach to digital art has been to use photos of my handmade collages as elements, modify them then combine them with found photos. I often turn photos of artworks into colorful psychedelic shapes using digital software, leaving only parts of the original work intact.

Influences and Education:
I have always read about art and looked at art since I was a child. Creating art has always been my foremost passion.
I have formal education in art but learned the most about contemporary art during the 11 years I lived in NYC in the 80s and 90s. During that time I regularly visited galleries and museums as well

I have always read about art and looked at art since I was a child. Creating art has always been my foremost passion.
I have formal education in art but learned the most about contemporary art during the 11 years I lived in NYC in the 80s and 90s. During that time I regularly visited galleries and museums as well as the studios of other artists I met there.
I was taught 2-D and 3-D design, color theory, life drawing, art history and printmaking at Kutztown University, then completed my bachelor's degree in fine art at Wilkes University, where I studied painting with Berenice D'vorzon.
Later I completed a master's degree in fine art in intermedia art and explored multimedia installation art at City College, CUNY. Al Loving was one of my mentors there, along with Judite Dos Santos.
This digital image, Woman of the Moment, 24 x 36 inches, explores the idea of fading beauty and beauty as a commodity. Another work of mine, A Bouquet in India appears as the face of the woman. Shadows indicate the passage of time and her impending exit. There is an arched doorway in the full image. The next room may be death or another phase of life.
This is part of a series I'm working on about issues of mortality in modern times.
